The solicitations are out, so this means I don’t have to do that awkward thing of announcing my own news (because, I mean, that’s weird, right? And I have<\/em> done the self-announcing thing myself – sometimes you can’t avoid it, when a project has no official outlet or PR or whatever. But… still. Weird. Anyway). So I can now simply say, hi there, I have a prose short story in the next issue of Lazarus: Risen<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a>! Issue #2 hits the stands July 22.<\/p>\n

Lazarus<\/em> is a comic I’ve been a fan of since the beginning back in 2013, and Greg Rucka is a writer I’ve been a fan of for many, many years prior to that. Sometime in 2011 I summed the courage to contact Greg to see if he’d blurb my superhero novel, Seven Wonders<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a>, as I figured he knew superheroes like few other creators. And, to my delight, he did! To this day, his blurb is something I’m incredibly proud of.<\/p>\n

Anyway, since then, we kept in touch, and despite a few near misses when I was travelling in the US, we finally managed to connect in person at Thought Bubble last year in Leeds. There he outlined the future of Lazarus<\/em>… and little did I realise that six months later I’d be invited to write for that world.<\/p>\n

And what a world it is… a near-future dystopia, where the planet is ruled by twelve super-rich families, and everyone else is either subservient, or simply waste. Image has a good primer here<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, and obviously I recommend digging into the series for yourself – all 28 issues of Lazarus<\/em> and the 6-issue miniseries Lazarus: X+66<\/em> (as well as three sourcebooks giving some deep-dive exploration of the world) are available collected in print and digitally.<\/p>\n
